Help shape the future of clean energy
Hydro Ottawa powers homes and businesses across the National Capital Region. We're also Ontario's largest municipally owned producer of green power. As we move toward net-zero operations, we’re looking for people who share our passion for learning, growing and making a difference in the lives of those we serve.

Powering progress through the trades
Skilled tradespeople enable Hydro Ottawa to deliver essential power across the city. To help develop those skilled tradespeople, we offer paid apprenticeship programs, which earned us a National Apprenticeship Award from the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum in 2023. Nearly 30 per cent of our trades workforce is made up of apprentices who learn directly from experienced journeypersons.
To help students gain the skills they need for a career as a powerline technician in Ontario, we’ve partnered with Algonquin College to deliver a two-year Powerline Technician Diploma Program. Hydro Ottawa hires exclusively from this program to fill our positions for Powerline Technician Apprentices and Power Cable Technician Apprentices.
Fueled by our commitment to increase gender equity, we have taken steps to ensure women have opportunities to join the trades and feel supported along their journey. Hydro Ottawa is a proud supporter of Algonquin College’s Women in Tech and Trades program which aims to close gender gaps by giving women in tech and trades programs tools and support that in turn help them excel in their studies and pursue long-term success in their careers.
Opportunities for students and graduates
Partnerships with educational institutions, from elementary to post-secondary levels, help us engage young people early. Thanks to our youth-oriented employment initiatives, we are regularly recognized as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People.
In addition to the recruitment of dozens of summer students annually, we also offer paid co-op and internship placements throughout the year to help students gain hands-on work experience and prepare for a career in their chosen field.
Developing the engineers who will help the electricity sector respond to climate change and achieve net-zero operations is another area of investment for Hydro Ottawa. For those starting out, we provide the training and skills needed to achieve their P.Eng. designation, and for established engineers, our structured framework offers clear, transparent pathways to intermediate and senior levels.
Are you a student who’d like to learn more or apply to one of our co-op placements or internships?
