Community support

We believe in giving back to the places where we live, work and play. Through our various initiatives across the region, we're committed to building a stronger, healthier and more vibrant community for everyone.

How we give back: A focus on impact

For more than 100 years, Hydro Ottawa has been woven into the fabric of the communities we serve. We proudly power homes and businesses across Ottawa and Casselman — and with that legacy comes a deep responsibility to be a good neighbour to our customers and partners.

Our long-term success is connected to the success of our communities. That’s why our community engagement is guided by a simple principle: to make a meaningful and lasting impact. We focus our efforts in a few ways:

Strategic partnerships

We build long-term relationships with local charities and institutions that are on the front lines, addressing our communities’ most pressing needs from health care to housing security.

Employee-led giving

We empower our employees to champion the causes they care about through fundraising campaigns, volunteer days and our annual Charity Golf Classic.

Education and insights

We provide resources for parents, teachers and students, raising awareness about electricity, what we do in our communities, and how we plan to make the grid more sustainable and reliable.

Community impact: Partner spotlights

We are proud to support the incredible work being done by charitable organizations throughout the communities we serve.

CHEO Race
Supporting children’s health with CHEO

The health and well-being of children and youth is an investment in our future. Our partnership with the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and the CHEO Foundation is one of our most successful community initiatives. We are proud to partner on fundraising events throughout the year and are actively involved in the annual CHEO Telethon.

Mother and son at Capital Fair
Fostering inclusion at the Capital Fair

For more than 25 years, we’ve partnered with the Capital Fair to host Special Needs Day. This cherished tradition offers a relaxed environment with smaller crowds and slower rides, allowing people with disabilities and their families to enjoy the fair to the fullest. Each year, over 60 Hydro Ottawa volunteers help ensure everyone has a wonderful time.

Entrance to United Way event
Empowering lives with United Way East Ontario

Since 2001, our employees have opened their hearts to United Way, helping the organization break down barriers and create opportunities for those who need it most. Through employee donations, corporate matching, bake sales and other events, we have raised millions for United Way. These funds support critical local programs for youth homelessness, mental health resources and services for isolated seniors.

The Royal signature building
Championing mental wellness with The Royal

Mental health is health. That’s why we support The Royal, one of Canada’s leading mental health-care and research hospitals, in their mission to break down stigma and help people on their path to recovery. Over the years, we have proudly sponsored The Royal’s Inspiration Awards and the Leaders for Mental Health Breakfast, bringing together community leaders to raise awareness and funds for mental health care. Since 2023, we have donated $363,000 to The Royal Ottawa Prompt Care Clinic.
