November 2024 - December 2024
At Hydro Ottawa, the safety of our community is our top priority. As part of our ongoing commitment to safety, we're undertaking a pole step removal project throughout our service territory.
What are pole steps?
Pole steps were historically installed on utility poles to provide access to telecommunication lines. These steps only reach the level of communication equipment and do not provide access to the higher voltage power lines.
Why are we removing them?
While they once served a purpose, we're taking a proactive approach to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of our community.
Project timeline and scope:
Throughout November and December, our crews will be working diligently to remove lower pole steps from our hydro poles across our entire service territory. This work will primarily take place within the City of Ottawa Road Right-of-Way allowance, which is a designated area where Hydro Ottawa has legal access to maintain its electrical infrastructure. In some cases, our crews may require access to backyard easements to complete the removal process.
What to expect:
- Minimal disruption: We'll make every effort to minimize disruption to your property and daily routine.
There are no scheduled power outages associated with this project.
Contractor: The pole step removal project will be carried out by both Hydro Ottawa and one of our trusted contractors, Bradley Kelly Construction. These teams are experienced and committed to working safely and efficiently.
- Easement access: In some cases, the crews will require access to your backyard easement to complete the work. We'll advise residents when accessing
