CHEO to receive new patient monitors as a result of Hydro Ottawa E-Billing campaign

February 17, 2017

The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) received $101,805 for new patient monitors from Hydro Ottawa today as a result of its successful 2016 Go Paperless campaign.

The Hydro Ottawa initiative encouraged customers to switch to E-Billing between September and December 2016, donating $5 for every customer who registered. Another $5 was donated to CHEO for every customer who signed up for the Pre-Authorized Payment Plan.

Mayor Jim Watson helped announce the donation today at CHEO, where guests were shown how patient monitors work. These important pieces of equipment measure a patient’s temperature, pulse, breathing rate and blood pressure. The new monitors will be compatible with CHEO’s electronic health record system and provide ongoing critical information to the medical team in real time at their fingertips.

Quick Facts

  • This is the fourth consecutive Hydro Ottawa E-Billing campaign and the most successful thus far. Last year’s initiative raised $90,980 for the Max Keeping Fund for Kids at CHEO.
  • The donation from the 2016 Go Paperless campaign will allow the hospital to buy 41 monitors out of its goal of 174 – meeting almost 25 percent of its needs.
  • Contributing to the well-being of the community is a key part of Hydro Ottawa’s core mandate.

Quotes

“Giving back is in our DNA as a community company. We’re honoured to contribute to a positive impact on children’s lives with these patient monitors – critical pieces of equipment used almost every minute of every day. Thanks to our customers for supporting this worthy campaign and making it the most successful yet.”

Bryce Conrad, Hydro Ottawa President and Chief Executive Officer

“Hydro Ottawa is in our community every day focused on energy generation, conservation and management. They help keep our homes and businesses running. Without them we would literally be in the dark! With this in mind it makes perfect sense that Hydro Ottawa would choose to support the purchase of equipment that doctors and nurses rely on daily at CHEO: patient monitors. Through the 2016 Go Paperless campaign, Hydro Ottawa and their customers have made it possible for CHEO to purchase 41 new patient monitors. The impact that these monitors will have on patient care will be felt in every department and clinic at CHEO. We cannot thank Hydro Ottawa enough for their continued dedication to making a difference for children and families who need CHEO.”
