Social Media Policy

In this Social Media Policy, “Hydro Ottawa”, “we”, “us”, or “our” means Hydro Ottawa Holding Inc. and its wholly-owned subsidiaries

Hydro Ottawa uses many social media channels, including, but not limited to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube (the “Social Media Platforms”) to help inform, educate and engage in conversations related to our business operations and services, and industry. Hydro Ottawa is committed to working everyday with transparency and openness. We endeavor to intentionally center our discussions around our customers, stakeholders and the communities in which we live and work. 

Your access to, use of and engagement with any of our accounts on the Social Media Platforms constitutes acceptance of the terms in this Policy. You may also be bound by other terms and conditions imposed by the parties who own and operate the Social Media Platforms.

Moderation, commenting and posting

We expect that comments and conversations will follow general rules of respectful discourse. Hydro Ottawa reserves the right to remove any content at any time, for any reason, and without notice that includes:

  • Commentary, content or images that are illegal, threatening, abusive, defamatory, or contains inflammatory language;
  • Messages that are inappropriate, derogatory, offensive, contain off-color humor, sexual innuendos or personal attacks towards other members of the community;
  • Discriminatory remarks and/or information that negatively portrays an existing community (e.g. ethnic group, nationality, gender, occupation);
  • Content that is unsolicited or irrelevant to Hydro Ottawa;
  • Content that violates these terms of engagement; or
  • Comments that are inaccurate, deceptive, or intended to misinform others.

We may not respond to posts that violate any of these terms and we may remove or block a user’s ability to access our accounts on the Social Media Platforms without notice.

Hydro Ottawa’s accounts on the Social Media Platforms are monitored during regular business hours of operation: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm Eastern Time, excluding statutory holidays and during disruptions, like major events such as floods and outages.

We will do our best to respond to comments and questions that we deem relevant and appropriate.

Personal information

Our accounts on the Social Media Platforms are publicly accessible to anyone.

  • Avoid posting personal or confidential information, about yourself or anyone else, including account billing information, on Social Media Platforms. 
  • To speak with us about confidential or personal matters, please contact us directly.

Language of communication

Hydro Ottawa's social media posts are composed and delivered in both English and French when possible, although links may not always be available in both languages. If a post is meant to highlight a link to content found elsewhere on the Internet, the message will be sent in the language of the content to which it links. Similarly, a shared message will only be delivered in the language of the original author. 

Publication 

By posting content on any of our accounts on the Social Media Platforms, you grant us the free and unlimited right to use and distribute content, for all practical purposes. 

Warranty disclaimer

Access and use of our accounts on the Social Media Platforms and their contents is at your own risk. They and all of their content are provided "as is". You must not rely on any content published on or linked from our social media sites without first making your own inquiries to verify it is accurate, current and complete. We do not make, and expressly disclaim, any representations, warranties, covenants and conditions, express or implied, arising out of operation of law, course of performance, course of dealing, usage of trade or otherwise, including any express or implied warranties and conditions of: merchantability; merchantable quality; fitness for a particular purpose; non-infringement; safety; quality; freedom from defects or that defects will be corrected; uninterrupted, virus-free or error-free use of our social media site; or accuracy, currency, reliability, completeness or appropriateness relating to the content of them.

Our accounts on the Social Media Platforms may contain links to other internet sites. Hydro Ottawa is not responsible for the content on external sites, nor is it liable to the user for any consequences resulting from the user linking or attempting to link to external sites.

Limitation of liability

Under no circumstances will Hydro Ottawa and its wholly-owned subsidiaries, or each of their respective officers, directors, employees, agents and independent contractors have any responsibility or liability for any loss or damage whatsoever (including without limitation direct, indirect, special, incidental, consequential, punitive, exemplary or other damages, and including without limitation to any loss of profit, costs, expenses, harm to business, business interruption, reputation, loss of information or programs or data, loss of savings, loss of revenue, loss of goodwill, loss of tangible or intangible property, legal fees or costs, wasted management or office time or damages of any kind whatsoever), whether based in contract, tort, negligence or any other legal basis, arising out of or in connection with our accounts on the Social Media Platforms, any linked website or linked social media site (including without limitation any damages suffered as a result of the use, inability to use or failure of, or any omissions or inaccuracies on, our accounts on the Social Media Platforms, lack of any response, any linked websites, or any of the services or content of the foregoing), even if we have been specifically advised of the possibility of such damage or loss, or if such damage or loss was foreseeable.

Hydro Ottawa employee personal social media use

Some Hydro Ottawa employees post to the Social Media Platforms under their own names or pseudonyms. Despite their professional affiliation with Hydro Ottawa, their posts do not represent the official position of Hydro Ottawa, and should be considered the product of each individual as a private citizen.

Similarly, the appearance of a user as a follower of any Hydro Ottawa account on the Social Media Platforms does not imply endorsement of any kind.

Modification of this Policy

We reserve the right to amend these terms in this Policy, at any time, or shut down any of our accounts on the Social Media Platforms without notice.
