May - December 2024
Demand for electricity in Ottawa continues to grow and electricity needs in the community are increasing due to planned residential and commercial development. To ensure power is available for customers now and in the future in Carleton Heights, we’re converting parts of our distribution system. The project involves upgrading electricity infrastructure to increase capacity and replacing aging existing infrastructure.
What this project will include
As part of the first phase of the Carleton Heights Voltage Conversion Project, we will:
- install new poles and overhead infrastructure on Fisher Avenue between Dynes Road and Normandy Crescent (south) and Prince of Wales Drive from Dynes Road to Nesbitt Place;
- excavate and replace underground cables and equipment; and
- remove and replace transformers located in impacted areas.
Why we are moving forward with this project
By increasing the overall electrical capacity, we are ensuring a more reliable and resilient power supply for the growing needs of the community. This upgrade is essential to maintain the stability and effectiveness of the distribution system, preventing disruptions and power outages. Additionally, the project replaces aging Hydro Ottawa infrastructure and equipment that have reached the end of their lifespan, safeguarding the safety and efficiency of the electrical grid.
