What this project includes
The Fortune Cable Renewal Project is a multi-year, multi-phase initiative being completed as an essential requirement to replace the underground equipment supplying power to the Orleans Ward.
Each phase of this project requires a combination of work, including - but not limited to - installing new underground duct work, replacing electrical transformers and cables, and installing maintenance holes.
The current phases of this project are:
Phase 1: August 2024 - December 2025
Phase 2: June 2025 - June 2026
Why we are moving forward with this project
Hydro Ottawa equipment in this area is reaching the end of its life cycle. As a result, it is essential to replace this equipment to ensure the overall reliability of the electricity system in the area moving forward.
Why this project is important
The Fortune Cable renewal project is important to ensure that we can continue to meet the capacity and reliability needs of the service area. The project also focuses on mitigating equipment failure while creating redundancies, ensuring a more consistent power supply.
How Hydro Ottawa customers will benefit from this project
Once the upgrades are complete, customers in Orleans Ward will notice a more reliable power supply, with improved capability. By replacing end-of-life equipment, customers will notice higher overall resilience of the electricity system in their area, leading to less unplanned power outages. This project is one of many future-planning projects we are spearheading to make our electricity system as resilient, and as sustainable, as possible.
